What is The Autoimmune Protocol by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne
Basically, it’s an autoimmune protocol diet plan from The Paleo Mom blog created by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne. More than that, it’s an all-inclusive guide to the autoimmune protocol. And, it comes from one of the leading experts on the AIP diet.
Not only is Dr. Ballantyne a medical biophysicist, she’s has experience her own share of pain and inflammation from an autoimmune disease. In other words, her diet plan grew out of her personal experience.
As far as personal experience goes, I came across this AIP resource during my own search for something that would ease my own pain and suffering caused by lupus. And, this ebook was the answer I was looking for.
In addition to providing me a month long AIP meal plan, it also provided me with all the information I needed to know about the effects of the foods I eat on my lupus symptoms.
Benefits Of The Book
If you suffer from an autoimmune disease, or any chronic illness for that matter, you know what it’s like to be in chronic pain. No matter where you go or what you do, the pain is always there.
Sure medication helps, but they carry their own side effects. And, sometimes the pain still remains: the joint pain, the headaches, and the painful irritable bowels.
So, you’re left thinking, “Is there no relief in sight?”
Well, yes, it is. If, you follow the autoimmune protocol.
Therefore, the diet removes the foods that cause inflammation and increase foods that support your body’s fight against inflammation.
Ultimately, it’s chronic disease management through lifestyle changes. By following the diet, you regain health as you give your body time to heal itself and reduce inflammation.

Who Should Buy This Book
Of course, this book is for anyone that suffers from an autoimmune disease and wants to eliminate inflammation. This includes people with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s), Sjogren’s Syndrome, and Hashimoto’s Disease.
Yet, it really works for anyone suffering from chronic illness. That’s because of its emphasis on whole health.
For that matter, it’s really useful for anyone that wants to restore gut health.
Like I said earlier, I discovered this book because I was tired of the inflammation caused by my lupus. In addition to joint pain, I was suffer from ulcerative colitis caused by my lupus. Additionally, I was experiencing pancreatitis at the time.
All that pain, bloating, bowel irregularity, nausea, and vomiting. I didn’t want to even think about food, much less eat.
I was at my wits end. And, not for one second did consider my diet part of the problem or the solution. Until, I read this book and followed the Autoimmune Protocol.
But once I completed my first 30 day restart, I could feel the difference.
If that kind of relief is what you’re looking for, then this book is for you.
What I Like About The Book
- The meal plan– Definitely. A whole month planned out for you. Who wouldn’t love that?
- The start-up guide– I had never drastically changed my diet like this and need the guide.
- The recipes– I’m not a foodie, so cooking by recipe is pretty much a requirement for me.
- Shopping lists– Brain fog requires that I live by lists.
- Automatic updates– As new information comes out, I can stay informed.
What I Don’t Like About The Book
Honestly, the size of the book is overwhelming. It’s so much information. But, it’s useful information. It’s more than a diet plan.
Really, I’d like to see it packaged differently. Maybe broken into separate pieces? I don’t know.
But, what I do know is that it’s been one of my go to books for dieting with lupus.
Likewise, I dislike that it only comes as a digital product. For one thing, I’m a book lover. I collect them. Basically, I live in my own library.
So, I would love to have a paper edition. Also, I refer to it so much, I’d like to have it handy. Like always on the kitchen counter handy. And, printing off over 300 pages isn’t economical.
But, I get it. Part of keeping the price down is offering it digitally. So, I’ll just adapt.
Of course, I printed off the recipes, the shopping lists, and the meal plan.
The rest is saved on my laptop where I can easily find it when I need it.
Final Thoughts On This Autoimmune Protocol Diet Plan
Like I said, this book is my go-to guide for eating healthy with an autoimmune disease. But more than that, it’s about living better with an autoimmune disease because it’s more than an autoimmune protocol diet plan.
It provides so much information for such a low price.
With this book, you get 4 weeks of autoimmune protocol meals plus the reasons behind them.
Incidentally, it’s become the only book I need when I need to complete a 30-day restart.
And, you could probably say the same once you buy this book.
For all of these reasons, I give it a Rating of 5 out of 5.
