I mean, over 300 pages!

It’s a complete reference guide on how to reduce inflammation accompanying an autoimmune disease.

In addition to diet, it also addresses topics such as relieving stress and getting proper sleep.

Simply, you could consider this book the encyclopedia of the autoimmune protocol. Dr. Ballantyne not only gives recipes, she explains why you need to follow this diet to reduce your inflammation.

Who Should Buy This Book

Of course, this book is for anyone that suffers from an autoimmune disease and wants to eliminate inflammation. This includes people with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s), Sjogren’s Syndrome, and Hashimoto’s Disease.

Yet, it really works for anyone suffering from chronic illness. That’s because of its emphasis on whole health.

For that matter, it’s really useful for anyone that wants to restore gut health.

Like I said earlier, I discovered this book because I was tired of the inflammation caused by my lupus. In addition to joint pain, I was suffer from ulcerative colitis caused by my lupus. Additionally, I was experiencing pancreatitis at the time.

All that pain, bloating, bowel irregularity, nausea, and vomiting. I didn’t want to even think about food, much less eat.

I was at my wits end. And, not for one second did consider my diet part of the problem or the solution. Until, I read this book and followed the Autoimmune Protocol.

But once I completed my first 30 day restart, I could feel the difference.

If that kind of relief is what you’re looking for, then this book is for you.

What I Like About The Book

  • The meal plan– Definitely. A whole month planned out for you. Who wouldn’t love that?
  • The start-up guide– I had never drastically changed my diet like this and need the guide.
  • The recipes– I’m not a foodie, so cooking by recipe is pretty much a requirement for me.
  • Shopping lists– Brain fog requires that I live by lists.
  • Automatic updates– As new information comes out, I can stay informed.

What I Don’t Like About The Book

Honestly, the size of the book is overwhelming. It’s so much information. But, it’s useful information. It’s more than a diet plan.

Really, I’d like to see it packaged differently. Maybe broken into separate pieces? I don’t know.

But, what I do know is that it’s been one of my go to books for dieting with lupus.

Likewise, I dislike that it only comes as a digital product. For one thing, I’m a book lover. I collect them. Basically, I live in my own library.

So, I would love to have a paper edition. Also, I refer to it so much, I’d like to have it handy. Like always on the kitchen counter handy. And, printing off over 300 pages isn’t economical.

But, I get it. Part of keeping the price down is offering it digitally. So, I’ll just adapt.

Of course, I printed off the recipes, the shopping lists, and the meal plan.

The rest is saved on my laptop where I can easily find it when I need it.

Final Thoughts On This Autoimmune Protocol Diet Plan

Like I said, this book is my go-to guide for eating healthy with an autoimmune disease. But more than that, it’s about living better with an autoimmune disease because it’s more than an autoimmune protocol diet plan.

It provides so much information for such a low price.

With this book, you get 4 weeks of autoimmune protocol meals plus the reasons behind them.

Incidentally, it’s become the only book I need when I need to complete a 30-day restart.

And, you could probably say the same once you buy this book.

For all of these reasons, I give it a Rating of 5 out of 5.

  1. Love this! Definitely going to utilize this for recipes and as a good go to reference. Glad to know you have this site I can keep up with now!

    1. Thank you. I decided to create this site to pass on what has worked for me as I strive for a better quality of life in the midst of a lupus relapse. My symptoms got so bad I had to leave teaching, a profession I love. Until a month ago, I suffered in silence, but I decided enough was enough. And, I made a decision to fight back. I keep using the phrase- moving from a lupus sufferer to a lupus warrior- because that’s my mentality now. I overcame this once before, and I’ll do it again. So, I share what I’ve learned through my journey. My hope is to help others.

  2. This book “The Autoimmune Protocol” lays out a very detailed plan for diet and foods that will help anyone suffering from an autoimmune disease and more. The contents are written by an expert who is also a trained doctor who herself has gone through the pain and impact that such diseases can inflict on people, so definitely the author has the credibility and authority for such a book.

Having 4 weeks of autoimmune protocol meals and diet laid out like this really can help you stay on track and also understand more about the reasons for the meal items selected. I am sure that many people can use this and likely even those not suffering from an autoimmune disease will benefit.

Thanks for the tip and review, I will be checking this book out. I am like you, I like hardcover books too, but in this instance, will make an exception. I can always print it off myself and place it in some kind of binding to give me more of a traditional softcover book feel that I am used to.

    1. Yeah, the binding is a good idea. For me, I just printed off the meal plan and recipes and laminated them since I keep them in a folder on the kitchen counter for ready access. Thanks for commenting.

  3. I think this is a great ebook that should be a in any household. I have a friend with lupus and right now she is in a bad health condition, always in and out of the hospital. She can be hard headed sometimes, eating foods which are prohibited by her doctors. She’s also under a regular dialysis at an early age of 39.

My two sisters are suffering from sebhorreic dermatitis. They have been spending a lot of money for expensive shampoos, soaps and skin treatment. It’s not a in a grave condition but they are doing everything to prevent it from becoming worse. I will tell them to purchase the Autoimmune Protocol Diet Plan so they can be guided on the food they can eat since both are living alone.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I think, whether you have an autoimmune disease or not, it’s better to look for guides like this e book to live and eat healthy. A lot of diseases and illnesses are surfacing at these times. We have to be cautious and health conscious because it’s one of the ways to avoid getting sick.

    1. It’s amazing how much what we eat affects our bodies. I know most people think of weight when they think of food, but you’re eating habits affect way more than just your weight. My experience with lupus has opened my eyes to just how important healthy eating habits really are. For me, since I have lupus, it’s even more important because certain foods aggravate the inflammation I already have. And, you’re right. Eating healthy is for everybody, not just people who suffer from an autoimmune disease. Thanks for commenting.
